It supports Windows 10 (1809 or later) 64-bit and Windows 11, as well as macOS and Linux. The client is free and open source under the GNU GPL v2.<\/p>\n<p>Install the MSI, enter your server address, and complete sign-in in the browser window that opens. Before syncing, decide whether each folder should use virtual files or be stored fully on the computer. Excluding large folders you do not need locally can help keep the sync selection focused.<\/p>\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/exedepot.com\/en\/soft\/nextcloud\/\">Nextcloud<\/a> provides the desktop connection, it requires a Nextcloud server behind it; you can run one yourself or use an account from a provider. The client is therefore not ready-made cloud storage on its own, and provider hosting or enterprise support may involve charges.<\/p>\n<h2>What happens after setup<\/h2>\n<p>The client keeps chosen folders on the PC synchronized with the server in both directions. Changes made on either side are synced to the other, so the same working files can be available across the computer and the server. Sync performance and reliability depend partly on how well the server is maintained.<\/p>\n<p>On Windows, virtual files let the server\u2019s file and folder structure appear in Explorer without immediately downloading every item. A file is downloaded when you open it, which makes it possible to browse server content while keeping the local download limited to what you use. For folders that need to remain available on the PC, selective sync lets you choose full local copies instead.<\/p>\n<h2>Working with files and accounts<\/h2>\n<p>Explorer integration also provides a way to create sharing links for files and folders from the right-click menu. This keeps a common sharing task close to the items being shared, rather than requiring the user to first locate them in a separate interface.<\/p>\n<p>One client can connect to several Nextcloud servers, which is useful when personal and team files are stored under different accounts. Each connection still depends on access to a server or provider account, so the client\u2019s role is to manage synchronization and file access rather than supply storage independently.<\/p>\n<h2>Choosing a sync approach<\/h2>\n<p>Virtual files suit folders that should be visible in Explorer but do not need to occupy local storage until opened. Full synchronization is more appropriate for selected folders that should be kept on the PC. Reviewing these choices during setup helps avoid downloading server content that is not needed on the computer.<\/p>\n<p>Nextcloud is suited to people and small teams who already operate a Nextcloud server or have an account with a provider and want desktop folder synchronization.
